Jill Mason

Jill is Head of the Health & Care Sector at national law firm Mills & Reeve. She also heads up our Healthcare Law and Mental Health Law practice – the team that advise on the law relating to patients and service users, both children and adults.

Jill has over 25 years’ experience of advising clients in both the public and independent sectors on all manner of healthcare law matters. Her expertise covers a whole range of areas including Risk Management, Investigations, Quality and Governance issues, Regulation, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Mental Health Act 1983 and Inquests.

She helped produce a briefing, in partnership with the NHS Confederation Mental Health Network, which summarises the Government’s legislative and policy proposals in respect of Mental Health. She is now working with them on the back of this to develop training on the Mental Health Bill for the Mental Health Network’s Learning Disability Forum.

Restorative Just Culture In Practice was published this year by Routledge. Jill contributed a chapter to this entitled Restorative Practice and Building a Just Culture following her work with Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust on Incidents, Early Resolution, Inquests and Learning.   Other authors included the former Secretary of State for Health, Jeremy Hunt and Dr Joe Rafferty, Chief Executive of Mersey Care.

Under Jill’s term as Head of our Health & Care Sector the team have won the LaingBuisson Legal Advisor of the Year (Public) award in both 2019 and 2021 and the LaingBuisson Legal Advisor of the Year (Independent) in 2022
